Our Packaged Gluten-Free Flour Is Here!

And Join Us In Supporting the Standing Rock Sioux!

Hello Friends of Back to Eden Bakery!

We hope you have all had a great summer and are now feeling good about the autumn that is now setting in. Time has certainly flown by this year and we are all scratching our heads wondering how it is now October. Of course in our line of work this tends to be our favorite season as we get to unroll out all the fall flavors like pumpkin, apples and pie spices. Many of you are probably feeling the call to get back into the kitchen yourselves to take on your own baking at home. Well, we are so excited to let you know that Back to Eden intends to be a much bigger part of your own culinary adventures with the release of our proprietary gluten-free flour blend. If you have ever questioned how we are able to make such delicious creations we would have to give as much credit to the specific ratios of our flour ingredients as we would to our talented baking team.

Packaged in 2 lb. bags our gluten-free flour blend is truly “universal” in its application as we have had great success using it for pie doughs, pizza crusts, flatbreads, roux and so much more. Moreover it is allergen-friendly being vegan and free of gluten, soy, potatoes, corn, nuts and most legume (contains guar gum)! To start it will be available at both retail locations starting today and we will keep you all posted as soon as online orders and shipping becomes an option. So if you ever wanted to play around in the kitchen with the secret to our success now you can and just in time for the holidays! Not to mention this would make a great gift for your gluten-free loved ones out there!

So now that we have your attention with that exciting news we would like to turn our focus to a cause that is very dear to our hearts. By now many of you have probably heard about the “protests” taking place in North Dakota against the Dakota Access Pipeline. But in case the very meager coverage on mainstream media has escaped your attention we feel that it is vitally important that everyone is aware and offers their support and solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux as they fight to protect their waters and their ancestral lands. DAPL has taken extreme measures to subvert native sovereignty in order to build an oil pipeline underneath the Missouri River destroying Native burial sites, siccing attack dogs on water protectors and employing military style tactics against these peaceful and prayerful heroes. Fortunately Indigenous allies from around the globe are showing up to the Sacred Stone encampment to offer their support as well as many non-Natives who see this as an affront to both our shared humanity and this fragile planet we all call home.

So we are calling on all of our friends and allies to join us in this growing movement and show your support of the Standing Rock Sioux in whatever ways possible. For many of us, traveling to the Sacred Stone camp is not really an option nor would it be the best use of our resources and individual platforms. But there are so many real tangible ways we can support this unprecedented coming together of the First Nations including: making financial donations to the camps and legal defense funds; sending much needed supplies to make it through the harsh winter ahead; divesting from banking institutions backing this pipeline; and contacting your elected officials and the Obama Administration expressing your opposition to this project. See below for a number of links to learn more about this issue and all the ways you can help.

Meanwhile, we would like to use this platform we have created for ourselves as a company to take our support a step further. Starting Saturday, October 1st and culminating on Monday, October 10th (formerly Columbus Day now known as Indigenous People’s Day) we will be running a supply drive to collect any extra camping supplies, tarps, blankets, warm clothing, herbal medicines, medical supplies, etc. Just bring us whatever you have to donate and we will box it up and send it out as a care package from the Back to Eden Bakery community. And then on the 10th, Indigenous People’s Day, we will be donating 25% of our proceeds to the Sacred Stone Camp so here is your opportunity to put your sweet tooth to some good use!

Thank you for taking the time to read all of this and for being such an awesome progressive community of Earth lovers! We know that standing together in solidarity justice can and will prevail. In the language of the Lakota “Mni Wiconi” means “water is sacred” and there is nothing we could agree with more!
