We're Thawing Out!

Hello friends!

Wow! What a winter it has been so far and by the calendar things are just getting started.  2017 is bound to be full of surprises and we feel so blessed to share this moment of time together with you. It is such an honor to serve the Portland community and all of our friends out there from beyond who share our vision for a more just and peaceful world. More recently you may have noticed that we have chosen to use this platform we have created with you more politically and all the feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive. We thank you for this encouragement and will continue to use whatever privilege and resources we have at our disposal to advocate for intersectional justice for all beings. This week which begins with honoring the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and ends with our collective wake up call we are reminded of the following words: “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” So with that we intend to make 2017 the best, most pro-active year to date with your support and collaboration.

If you are a Portland resident than you know just how cold and downright dangerous this winter has been thus far especially for the homeless among us. Here is a great list of organizations who could seriously use our help this most brutal of seasons: http://www.wweek.com/news/2017/01/12/want-to-help-homeless-people-out-in.... Depending on your proximity to the Portland area you might not know just how severe the weather has been and the serious impact it is having on the local small business community. This article from The Oregonian will give you a little perspective and what we are doing to help recoup some of our losses.

So from now until the end of the month Back to Eden Bakery is offering 10% off any gift card purchase. You can stop by either location (when they are both finally able to be open) or give us a call at 503-477-5022 to make your purchase and we will mail to any lucky person you choose.

To further lift your spirits during these chilly, somber months, we are delighted to share with you some fresh new flavors in our seasonal line up! A few of our current cupcakes include a lemon cream cheese, toasted hazelnut blackberry, salted chocolate, and our new favorite - the celebration cupcake which is a classic chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream, garnished with rainbow sprinkles!  One of our customer favorites the citrus ginger scone is back in rotation as well as our perfectly tart and sweet lemon coconut cream pie and orange cardamom sugar doughnut!  With Valentine’s Day fast approaching you are sure to see a lot more new flavors in our cases soon so stay tuned!!

We'd also like to remind you all about our revised SE Division food cart hours. When the weather cooperates you will find us open everyday from 12pm to 8pm. In hopes of better catering to the actual demand down there we will be featuring less of our morning pastries and focusing more on providing you with our delicious desserts. Don’t worry though, our doughnuts and cinnamon rolls will still be in daily rotation!  We have added mini cakes and cake by the slice to our menu at the cart to grater satisfy your sweet tooth. Feedback is everything so please always feel free to share your thoughts on how we can serve you better. And if you are in need of one of our morning pastries and not in the Alberta neighborhood you can visit one of our participating retailers! You can find our treats around town at Townshends Tea, Spin Laundry, Compass Coffee Roasters, and People's Co-op in SE Portland. We're slowly adding more wholesale accounts to our line up so stay tuned for more locations to stock up on Back to Eden treats!

Lastly, remember that Back to Eden Bake Off competition we told you about last month? Well, the winner has been chosen! Congratulations to longtime customer Joelle Flagel on her winning submission which was a mouthwateringcashew oat waffle! We appreciate everyone's participation in our first Back to Bakery Universal Flour Baking Contest and promise to hold more of these in the future. Of course we would still love to hear about how you're using our house flour blend, so again any feedback around that is greatly appreciated!

Thank you all so much for your continued support, we appreciate you all so very much and wish you the best in the year ahead. Take care and be well!

Best Regards,
Back to Eden Bakery
